Dialup Setup For Windows XP

This document covers the information customers may need while using Windows XP systems. Windows XP systems have built-in software for connecting to the Internet and this document will explain the necessary steps to create a Dial-up connection to IT&E.

Creating the "Dial-up" Connection

Click on "Start", then select "Control Panel".
In the "Control Panel" window, click on "Network and Internet Connections."
Under "Pick a task...", click on "Set up or change your Internet connection."
In the "Internet Properties" window, click on the "Connections" tab, then click on the "Add" button.
In the "New Connection Wizard" window, click on the "Dial-up to private network" button, then click "Next".
In the "New Connection Wizard" window, type the phone number from the location below.

Do not include the area code. Then click "Next".
In the "New Connection Wizard" window, under "Type a name you want for this connection", type "IT&E" and click the "Finish" button.
In the "IT&E Settings" window, under "Dial-up settings," type your IT&E user name and password. (Remember, both of these are case sensitive.) Then click on the "Properties" button.
In the "IT&E Properties" window, click on the "Advanced" tab.
In the "IT&E Properties" window, on the "Advanced" tab, under "Internet Connection Firewall, "uncheck on the box next to "Protect my computer...", then click the "OK" button.
You are now set up to connect to the Internet with IT&E! Simply launch your browser to connect.
