Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS)
Customers with speech or hearing disabilities can use IT&E's Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Specially-trained operators relay typed communications from TEXT Telephone users, or spoken conversations from non-TEXT users to the called party.
All conversations are kept confidential and are relayed entirely with the length and number of calls unlimited. The service is offered only in English. Operators will also relay all spoken words, background, sounds and emotions as accurately as possible. Examples could be anger, surprise, other voices heard in the room, or dogs barking.
TEXT Telephone users can initiate a call by dialing 711 and hearing individuals can initiate calls by dialing 511. Simply dial either 511 or 711 to connect to the service. Give the TRS operator your name, the number you are calling from, the name and number you want to reach, and tell the operator you are calling from the CNMI. The TRS operator will dial all other digits necessary to complete the call.
There is no charge to use TRS. Callers on Tinian and Rota can also dial 511 and 711 free of charge. PTI Worldpass Cards are available free at the IT&E Customer Service Center in Chalan Laulau and at the IT&E offices on Tinian and Rota.
Toll charges for long distance calls will vary, depending upon the international company selected to place the call. Please check with your long distance company before placing the call. The TRS operator will request the seven-digit access code (101+xxxx) for your preferred international carrier to ensure the correct routing and handling of your call. The following dialing pattern should be requested of the TRS operator to place an international call:
International Calls:
carrier access code + 01 + country code + area/city code + number
Calls to US (including Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Canada, and Carribean):
carrier access code + 0 + area code + number
IT&E Customer Service TTY Number: 235.9015
