- What does GSM stand for?
GSM stands for Global System Mobile.
- What is GSM?
GSM is the dominant 2G cellular phone standard for most of the world. It determines the way in which cellular phones communicate with the land-based network of towers.
- What is the difference between GSM and other cellular systems?
GSM uses a SIM card in order for the cellular unit to be active. Other cellular systems are activated through individual handsets.
- What is a SIM card?
SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module, it is a removable smart card for cellular phones. SIM cards securely store the service-subscriber key used to identify a mobile phone. SIM card users can change phones and keep their existing numbers.
- What are the benefits of a GSM service or phone?
GSM system is used worldwide, when you travel, you can take your GSM phone and just purchase a SIM card wherever you are. Or use PTI's GSM Roaming service where available.
- I have a CDMA phone, can I trade it in for a GSM phone?
Not at this time.
- I already have a GSM phone, can I purchase the SIM card only?
Yes. SIM cards are $29.95 each with a $20 load for Prepaid. SIM cards are included with your GSM Postpaid plans.
- Can I receive the same wireless features on my GSM phone as I currently have on my CDMA phone?
Most cellular features are available on the GSM phone. Example: Text Message, Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Forwarding, etc. Data is not available on GSM at this time.
- How much is GSM service per month?
PTI offers GSM on both postpaid cellular plans and prepaid cellular. Postpaid: GSM Plans are as follows: 300 minutes with FREE Unlimited Local Text Message at $25.00 per month 600 minutes with FREE Unlimited Local Text Message at $45.00 per month 900 minutes with FREE Unlimited Local Text Message at $65.00 per month 1,500 minutes with FREE Unlimited Local Text Message at $100.00 per month Additional minutes: $0.20 for ALL GSM Postpaid Plans. Prepaid: GSM service is $0.20 per minute. $0.10 per minute incoming calls from any PTI Cellular calls. Text messages are: $0.04 local, $0.06 Philippines, $0.10 international
- Do I have to sign up for a one-year service or can I sign up for month-to-month service?
Postpaid subscribers must sign up for at least a one-year service contract to avail the GSM service. This includes your SIM card is included with a cellular number. There is no contract for prepaid subscribers.
- Do I have to pay for any activation fee?
There is no activation fee when signing up for GSM service for Prepaid. A $100 deposit is required upon activation of any Postpaid plan.
- Can I pick my own cellular number?
Unfortunately, NO.
- How would my GSM number look like?
GSM cellular numbers are given the prefix 789. For example, your cellular number will be 789-1234.
- Is PTI getting rid of CDMA?
No. PTI will have two cellular networks to support your communication needs, GSM and CDMA.
- Can I use PTI's Prepaid Star Cards on my GSM Prepaid service?
Yes. PTI's Prepaid Star cards can be used on both GSM and CDMA prepaid cellular service.
- I have a GSM phone now, can I use it on PTI's cellular network?
It depends. If the unit is Dual Band (850/1900), it will work on Saipan and the US, no where else. If the unit is Quad band (850/900/1800/1900), it will work everywhere.
- What is Quad Band?
Quad band means four (4) frequency bands. Quad band supports GSM 850 - GSM 900 - GSM 1800 - GSM 1900.
- What is Dual Band?
Dual band means two (2) frequency bands. Dual band supports GSM 850 - GSM 1900.
- What frequency does PTI Network run?
PTI runs on 850.
- If I loose my SIM card, can I purchase a new one with the same number?
Yes. You can purchase another SIM card with the same number at $29.95.
- Are there any expiration date on the SIM cards?
SIM cards on Postpaid Plans do not have any expiration date. SIM cards on Prepaid will expire 90 days after it was last used.
- Will PTI's GSM Postpaid service have the same Free Incoming PTI Cellular Calls (287 and 285) as PTI's CDMA Postpaid service?
Yes.
- Will PTI offer Sharing Plans for GSM?
No. GSM Postpaid plans are ALL Individual Plans.
- Do I have to sign-up for a one-year service or can I sign up for month-to-month service?
